A house is a blessing from God
It is the grace and kindness of Allah that He has given us a blessing like a house to live with dignity, from which all the family members get many benefits.
House, the favor of Allah:
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah says:
“And Allah made for you your houses a place of peace and made for you such houses made of animal skins as leather tents, which make you feel light when you go on a journey and when you camp somewhere during the journey.” And from the wool of animals, their tears, and the hair of animals, make lasting articles of household goods that will serve you for a period of time.” (Surat al-Nahl)
Protect the house from haram earnings and haram actions:
It was narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, Meaning: “Beware of unlawful earnings and unlawful deeds in the construction and use of a house, because these things are the basis of its desolation.” )
Two types of house destruction:
Imam Sharaf al-Din Hussain bin Abdullah Tayyibi, explaining the mentioned hadith, says: “Avoid spending forbidden money in the construction of a house, because religion is destroyed in such a house.” Another meaning of this is to avoid haram activities in homes because this destroys the blessed and spiritual atmosphere of the home.
Islamic teachings on leaving home:
The first adhab is to pray two rakats of nafl prayer before leaving the house. Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, meaning: “O my Ummah! When you start leaving your homes, pray two rakats of Nafl prayer first.” (Musnad Bazar).
The second literature is that one should pray this dua while leaving the house. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, Meaning: When a person leaves his house, he makes this supplication: I leave my house with the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, besides Allah. There is no one who can protect me from sins and give me strength to do good. So the supplicant is freed from all the troubles of the journey.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)
The third etiquette is to greet the family while leaving the house. It was narrated from Hazrat Qatadah that the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, meaning: “When you leave home, greet your family and leave.”
Islamic teachings on entering the house:
The first literature is to enter the house by knocking or by some sign that informs the family of the arrival before entering the house. Hazrat Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal says that when a servant starts to enter his house, it is better that he coughs (coughing painfully) or taps his feet on the ground with a little force.
(Tafseer al-Qur’an al-Azeem known by Ibn Kathir, under Surah Al-Nur)
Another etiquette is to greet the family when entering the house. It was narrated from Hazrat Qatadah that the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, meaning: “When you enter a house, greet the family members.”
The third adab is to enter the house and pray two rakat nafl prayers. Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, meaning: “O my Ummah! When you return from your journey, when you enter your homes, perform two rak’ahs of Nafl prayer before doing the rest of your work.” (Musnad Bazar).
Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi has mentioned four levels of houses. which are respectively as follows:
House by Residence:
The house should be habitable, not desolate and disturbing like a cemetery, but such that a man can live with his family protected from sun, rain, heat, cold, and the evil effects of the weather.
Housing by luxury:
Allah Ta’ala has provided facilities due to which he wants to make his habitable house comfortable and comfortable, then the second level of the house is comfort. It means that the house should be made comfortable. For example, if the roof of the house is made of tin, then such a house is habitable, but the roof leaks in the rain and heats up in the summer, so the roof should be paved for the sake of comfort and comfort. Or if its walls are made more solid with plaster, it is also allowed.
Rather, the opinion of the humble (Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi) is flawed that the one whom Allah has given a facility, should make the house comfortable and solid, thinking about the comfort of himself and his family, even if he does not work with difficulty. Because in the Qur’an and Hadith, the unity of the believers has been likened to a foundation, which means a strong building. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Al-Mu’min ll-mu’min Kalbaniya, i.e. those who believe are like a strong building and a house in their unity. So there is an indication in this that the house should be firm and strong and it is not illegal. In Shariah it is permissible to make the house comfortable and strong.
House in terms of decoration:
If a person takes advantage of the facility and expansion given by Allah Ta’ala to make the house capable of decoration beyond accommodation and comfort. So the third level of the house is decoration, it means that apart from making your house comfortable and beautiful, it is also allowed in the level of leave. For example, if a person has built a habitable house but did not plaster it, or plastered it but did not paint it, then such a house is livable and it also has provisions for comfort and convenience. But the decorations and decorations are not arranged so it is not nice to see.
Now, if a person makes a house in a good condition with the help of Allah’s halal sustenance to make his heart happy, without unnecessary effort and work, then it is also permissible. There is a greater blessing than a house.
