Britain partially suspends arms sales to Israel
London: Britain has partially suspended arms sales to Israel over fears of human rights violations.
Britain says it will suspend 30 of its 350 arms export licenses to Israel because they could be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Foreign Secretary David Lemmy told parliament on Monday that the partial ban includes items that “could be used against Hamas in the current conflict in Gaza but does not include parts for F-35 fighter jets.”
He said the decision to suspend the licenses was not tantamount to an arms embargo, but added that the UK continued to support Israel’s right to self-defense under international law.
In his reaction to the British decision, Israeli Defense Minister Yves Gallant said that he is very disappointed by the decision which comes at a time when we are fighting a war on seven fronts and are mourning the death of six of our hostages.
