Global importers link purchases from Pakistani exporters to reporting climate compliance, Mian Kashif Ashfaq
Pakistan Furniture Council Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq has said that global importers have linked purchases from Pakistani exporters to reporting climate compliance by October 2023 and now it will be necessary for every producer to ensure its implementation by 2026.
Speaking to a delegation of businesswomen led by Hafsa Abdullah here on Sunday, he said the change is part of a wider trend in which multinational companies are focusing on environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards in their supply chains. are working to meet, the initiative is clear that there is a growing demand for environmental transparency in the way goods are produced.
He said that Pakistani exporters need to align with these requirements as importers are pushing to ensure that suppliers fulfill their obligations in this regard by 2026 and not just comply with local regulations. Instead align yourself with global demands from an environmental point of view. He said Pakistani producers could gain a competitive edge by adopting these standards as soon as possible as delay in doing so would risk being left behind in the environmentally conscious global market and resulting in non-compliance with these standards. Orders may be reduced or in some cases business relationships may be severed.
