Vaping risk doubles in teens with depression, study
SYDNEY: A survey of Australian teenagers has found that those who show symptoms of depression are twice as likely to use vaping.
Emily Stockings, co-author of the study, said that while nicotine may reduce feelings of anxiety and stress in the short term, young people may find vapes the perfect tool to combat stress.
“Regardless of how smoking affects mental health, it’s clear that if we want to stop vaping, we need to focus on youth mental health at the same time,” he added.
Emily and her team published the results of their study in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry.
